Redbirds Fall in Opener Against Round Rock

ROUND ROCK, Texas – The Memphis Redbirds (80-54) dropped the opening game of their series with Round Rock (Rangers) 5-3, Tuesday night at Dell Diamond. The Redbirds collected just four hits in the loss.

The Redbirds had just two hits until the seventh inning before scoring their first runs of the game. Wilfredo Tovar and Randy Arozarena walked with one out in the inning before Edmundo Sosa smoked his fourth home run of the season to left field to bring across three runs.

Memphis starter Jake Woodford took the loss, throwing five innings, allowing five earned runs on six hits and five walks, while striking out four batters. He is now 4-5 with a 4.81 ERA this season.

Three Memphis relievers combined to throw the final three innings of the game. Giovanny Gallegos, Conner Greene, and Andrew Morales combined to allow just two hits and one walk, while striking out two.

Memphis will play two more against Round Rock before finishing the season with four at Nashville. The Redbirds will begin the playoffs on the road on Sept. 5 before coming home for game three on Sept. 7.
