Holland, Lyons DFA’d – Cecil To DL

by Aaron Mullins

As mentioned earlier, Greg Holland was expected to be DFA’d but it looks like Tyler Lyons will be joining him while Brett Cecil will be going on the 10-Day DL.

To make room on the roster, the #STLCards have designated RHP Greg Holland and LHP Tyler Lyons for assignment, and have placed LHP Brett Cecil (right foot inflammation) on the 10-day disabled list, retroactive to July 23.

Lyons has had his share of tough outings this season having an 8.64 ERA through 27 appearances. He was set to become one of the primary arms for the Cardinals this season coming off a solid 2017 season where he was 4-1 with a 2.83 ERA over 50 games.

Cecil will be going back to the DL but should be on the hot seat as another candidate to the DFA’d soon. He has struggled in two seasons with the Cardinals not quite living up to his 4 year $30M contract.

The Cardinals said they would make moves. And they are certainly doing so.

What are your thoughts?
