Home Baseball Cardinals Set To Sign The Final Boss

Cardinals Set To Sign The Final Boss

by Mick Lite

According to Daniel Kim (former scout that covers MLB and KBO), the Cardinals have an agreement in place with Korean right-handed reliever Seung-Hwan Oh, pending a physical on Monday.

Oh is considered to be one of the greatest closers in the history of Korean Baseball.

He also has two of the coolest nicknames ever:

“Kkeut-pan Wang” (Final Boss) for his prowess as a relief pitcher.

“Dol-bucheo” (Stone Buddha) for being unshaken and maintaining an emotionless face in every situation.

Oh, 33, pitched to a 1.81 ERA, a5.18 K/BB ratio, and 0.85 WHIP over 646 1/3 innings across parts of 11 seasons in the Korean Baseball Organization and the Japanese Central League. He had 41 saves this past season for the Hanshin Tigers.

He throws a 92-95 mph four-seam fastball (that has topped out at 97 mph) that due to its hard rising movement has earned its nickname “Dol-jikgu” (Stone Fastball) in the KBO League. He offsets that with a slider and a breaking ball.

Oh’s contract with the Tigers ended, allowing him to become a true free agent, without the posting fee most players from Korea and Japan come with. His recent contract in Japan was for $8.3m over 2 years.

He figures to work as a setup man to Trevor Rosenthal.

Well, I notice that his hat has “SL” on it, so he must have been destined for the Cardinals…

A 1.81 ERA? So he did allow some runs.
(Just wanted to be the first naysayer/whiner.)
