Brian Jones Introduced as STL FC Goalkeeper Coach

by Press Release

Saint Louis FC has completed its technical staff for the 2015 season, formally announcing the addition of Brian Jones as the club’s new goalkeeper coach.

“I am honored to be afforded this opportunity,” Jones said. “Coaching at the professional level is something I have been actively seeking for a couple of years now.”

A St. Louis native, Jones played professionally for Sint-Niklaaz in Belgium, Olivais-Muscovide in Portugal, and the Kansas City Wizards in MLS.

“We are excited to add Brian as the final piece to our technical staff,” General Manager Jeremy Alumbaugh said.  “Brian has a proven track record as both a teacher and motivator of goalkeepers, and most importantly, he continues to study the trends and tendencies of goalkeeping around the world.”

Jones has spent the past seven years at SIU Edwardsville, where he was hired as the goalkeeper coach in 2007.  During his time with the Cougars, Jones mentored John Berner, who was named the Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) Goalkeeper of the Year in 2012 and 2013, and is now a member of the Colorado Rapids in MLS.

This past season, Jones was promoted to co-head coach at SIUE, and helped lead the Cougars to the program’s first MVC title and an appearance in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

“Brian was an integral part of the success of the team this season,” SIUE Director of Athletics Dr. Bradley Hewitt said.  “We will certainly miss him and thank him for his outstanding work over the last seven seasons.”

Jones has already been involved with the STL FC technical staff as the club moves closer to the start of the 2015 USL PRO season.

“I think it is going to be an incredible experience for everyone involved,” Jones added.  “I am extremely excited to get started and begin this journey together.”

Jones resides in St. Louis with his wife, Rebecca, and son, Remi.
