Losing is something Blues fans have not experience in a long time. In fact, the last time the Blues fell short was back on Jan. 15 against the Detroit Red Wings.

To no disappointment of St. Louis fans, they will have to wait a bit long for a loss as the Blues defeated the Buffalo Sabres 3-0 and recorded their seventh straight win.

The Blues also set a franchise record with 13 straight games with at least one point.

St. Louis is now 34-13-4 for 72 points, which ties them with Nashville for the Central Division lead.

Dmitrij Jaskin and Vladamir Tarasenko led the way with one goal a piece to life St. Louis to victory.

After a strong performance by Brian Elliott in an overtime win, it was Jake Allen between the pipes as he recorded his third shutout of the season as he turned aside all 21 shots faced.

In the Blues’ prior win, they struggled early on recording just two shots in the first period. But that would not be the case in this game as St. Louis tallied the first two shots in the game just four minutes into the game including a wrist shot by David Backes.

Despite the early start for the Blues offensively, the score remained tied after one period of play.

It took 38:07 into the game to find the first goal of the game as Ty Rattie and Chris Butler assisted on a wrap-around goal by Dmitrij Jaskin. The goal was Jaskin’s 6th of the season and second in three games. The goal gave St. Louis a 1-0 lead headed into the second intermission.

Allen made key stops early in the third period on bids from Cody Hodgson and Zemgus Girgensons to keep the score 1-0 for the Blues.

St. Louis would add some insurance later in the third period as Alexander Steen circled behind the net before finding Backes in front of the net. Backes got the puck over to Tarasenko who scored his 27th goal of the season to make it 2-0 with 5:38 left in the game.

Jaden Schwartz added an empty net goal with under two minutes left to play to seal it 3-0.

St. Louis will head back on to the ice on the road against the Columbus Blue Jackets. The game is set for Friday Feb. 6 at 6 p.m. CT.
