The Kansas City Chiefs came up just shy of a playoff berth even with the team’s 19-7 victory over the San Diego Chargers Sunday at Arrowhead. Despite the disappointing end to what’s been a tough season there was one positive takeaway; former Missouri Tiger quarterback Chase Daniel earning just his second start in six seasons since being signed as an undrafted free agent into the NFL in 2009 by the Washington Redskins.

In replacement of Chiefs starting quarterback Alex Smith; Daniel completed 16 of his 27 passes for 157 yards and no interceptions. Daniel nearly registered the teams first touchdown to a wide receiver, but Chiefs wide out Dwayne Bowe fumbled just shy of the goal line where Travis Kelce recovered in the end zone to give Kansas City a 10-0 lead.

Daniel had a fantastic career at the University of Missouri amassing over 12,000 yards and 100+ touchdowns. In 2007 he was named Big 12 offensive player of the year as well as being named a Heisman finalist in 2007 where he finished fourth behind Tim Tebow, Darren McFadden, and Colt Brennan. On Jan. 1 of 2008 Daniel led the Tigers to a Cotton Bowl victory over Arkansas.

Prior to being signed to the Chiefs Daniel was a member of the 2009-10 Super Bowl champion New Orleans Saints team.
