Outfielder Stephen Piscotty has been named to the Pacific Coast League All-Star team and will represent the Redbirds on the 30-man squad that takes on the International League stars in the 2014 Triple-A All-Star Game on Wednesday, July 16 at Durham Bulls Athletic Park in Durham, North Carolina.
Piscotty – who was selected as a reserve outfielder for the contest by the PCL office – is batting .306 (93-for-304) with five home runs, 24 doubles, 45 RBIs, and eight stolen bases in a team-leading 81 games played for the Redbirds.
The 23-year-old ranks second in the PCL in doubles, ninth in hits (93), tied for ninth in games played, and 11th in at-bats (304). He sports a team-leading 29 multi-hit games and is batting .366 (30-for-82) with runners in scoring position, second on the club behind Oscar Taveras’ league-leading .466 mark.
Entering the 2014 season, Baseball America recognized Piscotty as the Cardinals’ no. 4 prospect and as having the organization’s “Best Outfield Arm.”
The All-Star nod is the second honor for Piscotty in his professional career. He was named to the Florida State Mid-Season All-Star squad with the Advanced-A Palm Beach Cardinals in 2013.
At the conclusion of the 2013 season, Piscotty represented the Cardinals on the Salt River Rafters in the prospect-laden Arizona Fall League and was named to the All-Prospect Team.
The Pleasanton, Calif. native is in his third professional season in the Cardinals organization. He was drafted in the supplemental first round (36th overall) by St. Louis in the June, 2012 First-Year Player Draft out of Stanford University.
The 2014 Triple-A All-Star game will be broadcast live on MLB Network as well as on the radio on Sports 56 WHBQ at 6:05 p.m. CDT.
