The St. Louis Cardinals announced they signed their 29th round draft pick (885th overall), right-handed pitcher Bryan Dobzanski, a high school senior from Delsea Regional High School of Franklinville, N.J.
Dobzanski, 18, a six-foot-four, 220 lb., three-sport athlete, played baseball and football, but was also a two-time New Jersey State wrestling champion posting a record of 155-8 including a senior year in which he was 43-0 without being taken down. On the mound, Dobzanski had an earned run average of 0.91 his senior season over 46 innings pitched, averaging 13.3 strikeouts per nine innings pitched.
He signed a college letter of intent with the University of Louisville, a school whose baseball program has reached the College World Series in each of the last two seasons.
Dobzanski will report to the Cardinals Gulf Coast League affiliate in Jupiter, Fla.
