James Norwood (4-1) struck out seven over eight innings, but was hit with his first loss of the season as the Billikens fell to Massachusetts, 3-2. Saint Louis now 19-13 overall and 7-3 in Atlantic 10 play.
UMass opened the scoring in the second, taking a early 1-0 lead.
Junior first baseman Mike Vigliarolo hit a home run in the fourth inning, his fifth long ball of the season, to tie the game at one. However, UMass scored again in the bottom of the inning to take a 2-1 lead through four.
In the top of the fifth, Alec Solé ripped an RBI double to right center, tying the game at two.
In the seventh, the Minutemen lifted a sacrifice fly to deep centerfield, taking the lead for good at 3-2.
Despite the loss, Norwood threw well for the Billikens. He went the distance, throwing eight innings with seven strikeouts, no walks and seven hits.
Michael Bozarth also had a good day, going 2-3 with a stolen base.
The final game of the series will be tomorrow, April 13 at 11 a.m. Sophomore Josh Moore will get the start at UMass.
