Kevin Tansey Named ECHL All-Star

by Ray Schmitt

The Missouri Mavericks announced today, in conjunction with the ECHL, that rookie defenseman Kevin Tansey has been selected to represent the Mavericks at the 2017 CCM/ECHL All-Star Classic in Glens Falls, NY on January 18.

The 2017 CCM/ECHL All-Star Classic presented by I LOVE NY will feature the host Adirondack Thunder taking on the ECHL All-Stars in a non-traditional format featuring 5-on-5, 4-on-4, and 3-on-3 play, as well as a Skills Competition (Puck Relay, Hardest Shot, Fastest Skater) to highlight the talents of both teams.

The game will air LIVE exclusively on NHL Network on Wednesday, Jan. 18, 2017, at 8 p.m. ET from the Glens Falls Civic Center in Glens Falls, N.Y.

Tansey, 23, has posted 10 points (2g, 8a) in 16 games for the Mavericks. His .63 points-per-game average is seventh best among rookie defensemen who have played in 10 games or more. The rookie out of Clarkson University began the season with Chicago of the American Hockey League where he had 19 penalty minutes in 12 games.

A 6-foot-4, 220-pound defender, Tansey originally signed as a free agent with the Mavericks over the summer. He was invited to skate with the St. Louis Blues at the Traverse City Prospects Tournament last September and parlayed that into a spot at Blues training camp. After appearing in a pair of exhibition games for the Blues, Tansey went to AHL camp with Chicago and earned a contract with the Wolves.
