The St. Louis Cardinals have recalled right-handed pitcher Adam Kloffenstein (KLOFF-en-steen) from Memphis (AAA) and optioned right-handed pitcher Chris Roycroft to Memphis. In addition, outfielder Victor Scott II will be added to the Cardinals roster as their 27th player for the neutral site Jewel Event game at Rickwood Field against the San Francisco Giants tonight.
Kloffenstein, 23, was acquired by the Cardinals along with RHP Sem Robberse (ROBBER-sa) in a trade with the Toronto Blue Jays last July in exchange for RHP Jordan Hicks. The Magnolia, Texas, native started 14 games in Memphis and posted a 4-4 record with a 3.97 ERA over 77.0 innings pitched with a 1.13 WHIP. With an ability to induce ground balls, Kloffenstein is tied for the lead in all of Minor League Baseball with 14 ground into double plays, matched only by Dallas Keuchel of AAA-Tacoma. Kloffenstein ranks among International League leaders in innings pitched (2nd), strikeouts (68, T-8th), WHIP (5th), opponent BA (4th, .213) and qualifying ERA (9th). His first appearance will be his Major League debut and would be the sixth Cardinals player and fourth pitcher to debut in 2024.
Scott II, 23, was the Cardinals fifth round selection out of West Virginia University in the 2022 draft. He played in 20 Major League games for the Cardinals after making the 2024 Opening Day roster, then was optioned to Memphis on April 21. In 45 games for Memphis, Scott II was batting .194 with 3 HR, 11 RBI and was 17-for-20 in stolen base attempts. Scott II, an 80-grade runner, recorded a Minor League-leading (tied) 94 stolen bases in 2023 and was also awarded the Rawlings Gold Glove for outfield, one of three in all of Minor League Baseball.
Roycroft has made 14 appearances with the Cardinals and posted a 1-1 record with a 3.07 ERA over 14.2 innings pitched.
Kloffenstein will wear uniform number 66.
