Josiah Dotzler Transfers to Billikens

by Brian Kunderman

Saint Louis men’s basketball has bolstered its roster with the addition of Creighton transfer Josiah Dotzler (Omaha, Neb.), SLU head coach Josh Schertz announced today.

“Josiah is a player we recruited out of high school,” Schertz said. “After watching him that summer, we thought he was a great fit for us systematically with his ability to play with the ball and without it. He is a cultural fit because all he cares about is adding to winning and being a great teammate. To win at the highest level you need really good players and people who can impact winning on both ends of the floor, and we believe Josiah certainly does that.”

Dotzler (name pronounced Jo-ZY-ah DOTES-ler) played last season at Creighton after a standout prep career at Bellevue West High School. The 6-foot-3 guard appeared in 19 games for the Bluejays as a true freshman as Creighton advanced to the NCAA Sweet Sixteen.

At Bellevue West, Dotzler helped the Thunderbirds to a 29-0 record and a state title his senior year. He was tabbed Nebraska’s Gatorade Player of the Year after averaging 16.5 points, 5.0 assists and 4.1 rebounds. Dotzler also played on Bellevue West’s state championship squad his freshman season.

The second youngest of 14 siblings, Dotzler and his family are heavily involved in the Omaha community and started Abide, a faith-based, inner-city nonprofit that aims to revitalize the inner city one neighborhood at a time. Also, Dotzler’s brother, Josh, played at Creighton from 2004-09.

Dotzler is the third transfer signed by the Billikens, joining Robbie Avila (Indiana State) and Isaiah Swope (Indiana State). As of April 23, SLU has eight of 13 available scholarships filled for the 2024-25 season.
