MEMPHIS, TN – The Memphis Redbirds continued a six-game homestand with an 11-inning, 9-8 loss to the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp on Saturday afternoon at AutoZone Park.
For the second straight day, a Memphis Redbird recorded a multi-home run game in a losing effort. On Saturday afternoon, Moises Gomez blasted a pair of solo home runs off of MLB Rehabber Johnny Cueto. In total, Gomez registered a 4-for-6 afternoon with two runs scored, two home runs a double and two RBI.
Shortstop Masyn Winn found the power stroke once again, drilling a three-run homer in the bottom of the second inning. At the time of the home run, Winn had homered in three of his last five plate appearances. First baseman Luken Baker clubbed his Minor League Baseball lead-tying 12th home run of the season to give Memphis a 6-0 lead in the third.
With Jacksonville down to its final strike in the top of the ninth, first baseman Jordan Groshans clubbed a three-run home run to tie the game, his first home run of the season. Jacksonville scored the winning run on a bases loaded walk in the top of the 11th.
Matthew Liberatore made his seventh start of the season on Saturday afternoon. The reigning International League Pitcher of the Month allowed four runs on seven hits, walked three and struck out six in his 5.1 inning effort. The left-handed pitcher allowed a three-run home run on the final pitch he threw in the sixth inning.
