O’FALLON, Mo. – The O’Fallon Hoots, members of the Prospect League, announced that former Cardinals catcher and Manager Mike Matheny will join Andruw Jones at CarShield Field for the 3rd Annual MLB Alumni Home Run Derby presented by Complete Auto Body & Repair. Matheny and Jones will be joined by two additional alumni to be announced at a later date.
“Mike Matheny is a part of Cardinals history, leading the team to a World Series appearance as both a player and as a manager,” Hoots General Manager David Schmoll said. “We are excited to welcome him back to the St. Louis-area for this event.”
Mike Matheny enjoyed a 13-year MLB career with stops in Milwaukee, Toronto, St. Louis and San Francisco. The four-time Gold Glove catcher began his Major League career in 1994 with the Milwaukee Brewers and ascended to the starting catcher role in 1996. The Columbus, Ohio-native joined the Cardinals in 2000 and was part of the 2004 team that went to the World Series. Matheny returned to the Cardinals in 2008 as a special assistant before being named Manager in 2012. He led the Birds to a World Series appearance in 2013 where they fell to the Boston Red Sox.
Matheny joins Andruw Jones as the first two players announced for the 3rd Annual MLB Alumni Home Run Derby presented by Complete Auto Body & Repair. Two additional MLB Alumni participants will be announced throughout the spring.
The 3rd Annual MLB Alumni Home Run Derby presented by Complete Auto Body & Repair will take place June 3 at CarShield Field in O’Fallon with the event beginning at 7:00 p.m. Fans will have the opportunity to purchase limited, specialty autograph passes to go on the field to meet and get autographs from Jone and the three additional MLB Alumni to be announced at a later date. The autograph session will run for two hours beginning at 4:00 p.m. Autographs will not include inscriptions and will be name only.
General Admission tickets for the event are $15 with the option to add-on the autograph session for an additional $25. Only a limited number of autograph tickets will be made available.
