The Memphis Redbirds dropped game five of a six-game series to the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp at 121 Financial Ballpark on Saturday night by the final score of 2-1.
Memphis pitching tallied its highest strikeout total of the season with 18 strikeouts over eight innings pitched, one higher than the season high set on May 14 at Norfolk.
First baseman Luken Baker stayed hot, going 2-for-4 on the game. Designated hitter Ivan Herrera drove in the lone Memphis run with a two-out base hit in the eighth inning, his second single of the night. Left fielder Alec Burleson delivered his 38th multi-hit game of the season, reaching base three times.
The loss marks the team’s fifth straight, tying the season’s longest losing streak which began against Jacksonville on May 6th. The Redbirds are now 3-14 against the Jumbo Shrimp on the season.
The Memphis Redbirds (54-49) return to 121 Financial Ballpark on Sunday night against the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp (58-45), Triple-A affiliate of the Miami Marlins for a scheduled 5:35 p.m. CDT first pitch.
