Saint Louis guard Yuri Collins posted a double-double of 17 points and 11 assists in an 89-66 Billiken win over Lindenwood in an exhibition game Sunday afternoon at Chaifetz Arena.
It was the final preseason test for the Billikens, who officially open their 2021-22 season next Tuesday, Nov. 9, against Central Arkansas at Chaifetz Arena.
Collins led four Billikens in double figures with a game-high 17 points. He was 6-of-10 from the field and 4-of-5 from the stripe. He had only two turnovers.
Also scoring in double figures were Jordan Nesbitt (14 points, 4-5 FG, 2-2 3FG), Terrence Hargrove Jr. (10 points, 4-6 FG, 2-4 3FG) and Fred Thatch Jr. (10 points, 5-9 FG).
Hargrove pulled down a team-high eight rebounds. Nesbitt had another solid stat line, which included two assists, two blocks and a steal.
Marten Linssen and Francis Okoro each chipped in nine points and combined for 7-for-8 shooting from the floor.
All available scholarship players played at least six or more minutes. Saint Louis shot 57.4 percent from the field including a sizzling 73.1 percent in the second half. SLU won the rebounding battle 39-33.
Lindenwood, which was led by Jacoby Ross’ 13 points, kept it close in the first half and trailed by four at the break, 39-35. SLU broke the game open with a 15-0 run in the second half, but the resilient Lions responded with a 10-0 run of their own. Saint Louis kept its foot on the gas and built its lead back to 20 en route to the win.
