The recent rumor surfacing social media is that of Drew Brees and a possible connection to the St. Louis Rams. Brees is under contract with the New Orleans Saints and is set to become a free agent after the 2016 season. But there is possibly new ownership and a new coach coming in, and the Saints might ask Brees to take a paycut. Brees could decline and ask to be trade, or ultimately be cut by the Saints.
It was reported by a writer at dystnow.com, who said inside sources to Brees said that Brees would want to go to a team with a warm climate or team with a domed stadium. He also wants a team with a good offensive line and running game. When I contacted the author of the article about his sources, he stated that “I do not disclose sources but I’m confident in the accuracy of the information that I reported.” View that article here: http://dystnow.com/2015/12/29/sources-st-louis-is-targeting-drew-brees/
Right now there is little to no legitimacy to the rumors that Brees would land with the Rams. Then again around the Super Bowl last year, when rumors came about the Rams wanting to get Nick Foles, we didn’t think that was going to happen either. But as of right now, I’d say there is about a 1% chance that Brees becomes a Ram via a trade, and even that 1% is a rather generous number. The Rams would also likely have to overpay for Brees if he became a free agent. Right now it is all just speculation and we will see what is to come this offseason.

Given the cap issues that the Saints have with Brees’ contract (he is still scheduled to be paid @ $19 million a year for the next 2 years), it is not surprising that some teams are sniffing around to see if Brees could be acquired by trade. It would be naive for anyone to think that the Rams are the only possible team. While Brees may have earned some input on his trade destination, the Saints have the final call on where he ends up, if they pull the trigger.
The Rams won’t sell the farm to bring in Brees but if they can get him for a decent price (e.g. Foles or Keenum plus a 2nd rounder and a mid/late round pick or two) and can get Brees signed to a cap-friendly contract, it might work out. The Rams would also need to target better WR for Brees to throw to in free-agency and/or the draft. Brees’ value to the Rams would be hindered if the WR talent is not also upgraded significantly. More improvement is needed on the offensive line as well.
All that speculation aside, I agree that it is unlikely Brees would end up with the Rams. Some QB-hungry team is likely to outbid the Rams out of desperation, so the Rams would only have a shot if Brees really wants badly to come to Saint Louis and convinces the Saints to take less in compensation (and probably also take a bit of a pay cut himself). I can’t see the Saints cutting Brees outright but stranger things have happened. The Saints will try to sell high in a trade, but will end up selling in the middle. No sense to let Brees walk and not get anything in return (save for a compensatory mid-round draft pick in a year).
