St. Louis Blues forward Sammy Blais has agreed to a two-year contract extension with the club with an AAV of $1.5M, as reported by John Matisz of the Score. Blais is currently on a one-year/$850K deal that was set to expire at the conclusion of the 2019-20 season. Blais has recorded six goals and seven assists in 40 games played this seaosn, as he missed 28 games due to a wrist injury. Blais was also a force in the Blues 2019 Stanley Cup run, recording three points in 15 games played and being a force to reckon with as he totaled 70 hits in the playoffs.
Blais was the only free agent to be the Blues had to re-sign that had played in the top six of the lineup this season and is now locked up until the end of the 2021-22 season. The only remaining to be free agent forward the Blues have unsigned that played at the NHL level this season is Mackenzie MacEachern, who recorded seven goals and three assists in 51 games during the 2019-20 season. The Blues of course have several other big names that are not signed for the 2020-21 season and beyond including captain Alex Pietrangelo, Vince Dunn, and Marco Scandella. Nonetheless, Sammy Blais’ role with the Blues has increased this season and he will be a big part of their plans going forward now being locked up for at least two more seasons.
