Spike Jonze documentary will chronicle ‘Beastie Boys’ 40 years of friendship’

Apple TV announced via Instagram today that  Beastie Boys’ Mike D and Adam “Ad-Rock” Horovitz, along with Spike Jonze, have announced a collaboration on a new documentary called Beastie Boys Story.

According to Pitchfork.com, Jonze directed the movie and co-wrote it with Mike D and Ad-Rock, also stating that the project was spawned from Jonze and the Beasties’ massive Beastie Boys Book.

Apple TV explains the film via Instagram, “An intimate, personal story of their band and 40 years of friendship in a live documentary experience.”

In addition to the 4 decades of friendship between Mike D, Ad-Rock, and MCA, their friendship with Jonze has withstood the test of time.  The collaboration is certain to incite a spectrum of emotions as Jonze, Diamond, and Horovitz delve deeply into their lives from young adulthood, to their big break, winning a grammy, monumental fame, and the rest we all know.

The documentary will be released on IMAX on April 3 and globally released on April 24 on Apple TV+.
