The Chicago Blackhawks defeated the St. Louis Blues 4-2 as the Blues have dropped their second straight game of the year.
Vladamir Tarasenko scored a pair of goals in the second period, but it was not enough to stop Patrick Kane and the Blackhawks as Kane extended his point streak to 12 games.
After the loss, the Blues are now 11-5-1 for 23 points and sit tied for second in the Central Division.
In net, Jake Allen finished with 23 saves in defeat. On the other end, Corey Crawford picked up the win with 29 saves.
In the first period, Chicago got out to the early lead.
Ryan Reaves turned over the puck in the defensive zone. Kane intercepted Reaves’s pass and dropped it to Duncan Keith at the point. Keith took a shot that Andrew Shaw deflected past Allen to give the Blackhawks the 1-0 lead just 4:01 into the game.
Taresenko responded in the second period.
Jori Lehtera one-touched a pass to Alexander Steen as Steen entered the attacking end with speed. Steen passed over to Tarasenko who took a wrist shot on net. Crawford made the firs stop, but a juicy rebound popped right back to the blade of Tarasenko. Tarasenko delayed getting Crawford to fall to this ice before lifting one into the net to tie the game at one.
Tarasenko wasn’t done in the second period as he got his second goal less than two minutes later.
With traffic in front of the net on the power play, Tarasenko held the puck by the point. Tarasenko cocked his blade back and fired a wrist shot into the upper right corner past Crawford’s blocker giving the Blues the 2-1 with 11:44 remaining in the second period.
With the pair of goals, Tarasenko now leads the team with 10 and reached the 200 point milestone in his career.
The Blackhawks responded with a pair of goals late in the second period.
David Backes failed to get the puck out of the zone and turned it over behind his net. The puck popped out front to Trevor van Riemsdyk who snapped one past Allen to tie the game at two with 4:43 remaining in the period.
Then, on the power play, Arten Anisimov tapped a pass to Artemi Panarin who touched it over to Kane in the slot. Kane was all alone as he snapped a shot between the five hole of Allen to give the Blackhawks a 3-2 lead.
Anisimov added a goal in the final minute of the third period to put the game out of reach for Chicago.
Next up for the Blues is a game at home against the Winnipeg Jets who are coming off a 7-0 loss at the hands of the Nashville Predators. The game is set for Sunday, Nov. 15 at 7 p.m.
