Just the other day, I wrote a post about putting Descalso into the line up consistently to see what he could do. Stick him in there at shortstop for Kozma and see where the games lead. I won’t take complete and total credit for this thought, but hey, have you seen the scores in this series against the Reds when Dirty Dan is in for Pete? Let’s take a look:
Friday, August second-Cardinals beat the Reds 13-3; Descalso goes 3 for 5 with two homeruns and two RBIs. Saturday, August third, Descalso gets the start at second, putting Matt Carpenter out of the line up. Cardinals lose 8-3. Daniel goes 1 for 3, no RBIs. Today, (high-sock Sunday), Dan gets the start again at short. Cards win 15-2; Descalso is 2 for 5 with 1 RBI and two doubles. Are you seeing the trend here?
Before the (3 game) starting of Descalso, his batting average sat at .266, with 3 homeruns and 26 RBIs. As of the end of today’s game, he is now hitting .270 with 5 homeruns and 30 RBIs. That much improvement in three games?! Wowzas.
I think whomever was in charge of this decision is feeling pretty good about themselves right now. I would also like to think he can continue to get the starts at short.
Let’s see if the Cards can continue these crazy high scoring games against Greinke, Kershaw and the rest of those Dodgers.
Go Cards!
