Is Coach Jeff Fisher ready for his fourth season with the St. Louis Rams? Considering the recent changes he’s made, such as an all-new offensive coordinator, it can be assumed yes. Or, at least, he’s positioning himself the best way he knows how.
Frank Cignetti was originally the team’s quarterbacks coach, but Fisher has promoted him to offensive coordinator. This will be his first time serving as offensive coordinator at a pro-level. The team’s former coordinator was Brian Schottenheimer, but he’s left pro football for college-level gameplay.
The team looks good for the upcoming season, but there are a lot of rookie players on the offensive line. “The current most experienced offensive lineman the Rams have is Rodger Saffold, who is heading into his sixth season,” writes Vavel.com. Unfortunately, other seasoned players, such as Harvey Dahl and Jake Long, have moved on from the team.
Given the rookie state of the offensive lineup, fans are wondering what changes can be made to ensure victories in the upcoming 2015 football season.
The Rams Should Pick up Philip Rivers
The upcoming season looks promising, but trades may be needed to ensure a winning season. There is still time for the Rams to make some changes to their starting lineup. The draft may be over, but there’s still time to trade and St. Louis may want to consider the following changes to win over the competition in the 2015 season.
According to NBC Sports, and numerous other sports news sources, Philip Rivers won’t sign a new contract until his current one expires. He has major concerns over moving his family to Los Angeles, which is a very real possibility to for the Chargers.
If Rivers becomes a free agent, the Rams should snatch him up. It may not be a possible trade for the 2015 football season, but in the long-term Philip Rivers could be a potential candidate (and, he’d make a significant and promising addition to the team).
The San Diego Chargers may replace Rivers with a younger arm via trade, draft, or free agency. In truth, the Chargers don’t seem that dismayed with Rivers’ decision to not renew. If the trade happens this year, that’s a perfect opportunity for the Rams to seize the day; or, in this case, seize the quarterback.
Todd Gurley Still Best Choice for Running Back
The Rams should do alright with Todd Gurley as their first string running back. He was the team’s first pick in the 2015 draft, and it’s clear why. He’s an elite player, according to the St. Louis Rams’ official website.
“In just 30 games, Gurley finished No. 2 in Georgia program history with 44 career touchdowns (36 rushing, six receiving, two kickoff returns). He also set a school record at 6.44 yards per carry, and had 18 games with 100 yards rushing.”
There’s no telling if a rookie will play with the same gumption as he did during college, but Gurley’s stats are incredibly promising. He’s a nice addition to the offensive line, and has a lot of potential for the upcoming season.
Only Time will Tell…
Unfortunately, there’s no real telling if the Ram’s rookie lineup will make major plays in the 2015 season. Fans hope the team’s newest additions will result in a winning year, but nothing is for sure until pre-season when fans can see the rookies on the field, and thus judge their abilities.
Without veterans on the offensive line, it’s impossible to judge how the season will play out. It may be best for St. Louis to consider trading for some more experienced players. It’s doubtful Coach Fisher will make that choice, but fans can always hope.
