Redbirds Blanked In Series Opener

NEW ORLEANS, Louisiana – The Memphis Redbirds (76-51) dropped the series opener to the New Orleans Baby Cakes (Miami) 5-0, Tuesday night in New Orleans.

The Baby Cakes scored three runs in the fourth inning on a three-run home run from Peter O’Brien. They scored one run in both the seventh and eighth innings to round off the scoring.

Memphis starter Tyler Lyons took the loss in his third start with the Redbirds. The lefty threw a season-high 5.1 innings, allowing three runs on three hits and a walk, while striking out a season-high five batters. He is now 0-1 with a 3.55 ERA with the Redbirds.

Landon Beck threw 0.2 innings to follow Lyons, stranding the lone runner he inherited. Dominic Leone threw one inning, allowing one run on three hits. Andrew Morales pitched the eighth for Memphis, allowing one run on one hit.

Adolis Garcia and Wilfredo Tovar both turned in multi-hit performances, going 2-for-4 and 2-for-3, respectively. Infielder Tommy Edman went 1-for-3 with a walk in the contest, extending his hitting streak to eight games. Ramon Urias went 1-for-4, extending his hitting streak to five games.

The Redbirds and Baby Cakes will play two more games to finish off the season series, before the ‘Birds return to AutoZone Park on Friday for the final regular-season series against Nashville. For more information on single-game tickets, visit www.memphisredbirds.com.
