O’FALLON, MO–The River City Rascals snapped their season-high six game losing streak behind an epic comeback on Saturday night at CarShield Field, beating the Washington Wild Things by a final score of 7-6. After the Wild Things jumped out to a 5-0 lead, the Rascals rallied for seven unanswered runs to seal the win.
The Wild Things scored three in the first inning on a RBI double from Kyle Pollock and a two-run single from Hector Roa. They then scored two in the third, with Roman Collins scoring on a bobbled ball in leftfield by Kevin Suarez and Reydel Medina bringing in another run on a sacrifice fly.
The Rascals got on the board with a three-run shot from Zach Lavy in the third, and Paul Kronendfeld made it 5-4 with a sacrifice fly in the fourth. The Rascals took the lead in the sixth behind a two-run homer from Paul Kronenfeld, which was immediately followed by a solo blast from Mike Jurgella. The Wild Things got their final run in the seventh, on an RBI single from Pollock.
Both Lavy and Clint Freeman had three hits for the Rascals, and Pollock had three hits for the Wild Things.
Rascals starter Jonny Ortiz took a no-decision, going 4 1/3 innings, allowing three earned runs and striking out five. Reliever Ryan Orr (2-2) earned the win, allowing just one hit in 1 2/3 innings out of the bullpen. Cody Mincey picked up his league-leading 16th save of the season, retiring the side in order in the ninth.
Wild Things starter Taylor Bloom also had a no-decision, allowing three runs in three innings. Washington reliever Davis Adkins (4-4) took the loss, allowing three runs in the sixth.
The Rascals (31-28) and Wild Things (32-27) play the rubber game of their series matchup tomorrow night, with first pitch scheduled for 6:05 pm CT. Dan Ludwig will make the start for the Rascals in his return from the injured reserve.
