As the midway point of the season approaches we look back on the first half of Saint Louis FC‘s Inaugural season. Saint Louis FC goes into the midpoint of the season with a record of 3-4-5. They have registered a home record of 1-3-3 and an away record of 2-1-2. Currently they are in nineth place in the USL with 14 points in 12 games. Saint Louis FC is five points behind the sixth place team, and the last playoff spot available. In the 12 games this season Saint Louis has managed to find the back of the net 13 times, giving them a goal per game average of 1.08.
Saint Louis’ roster additions throughout the first half of the season half payed dividends. GK Alec Kann, on loan from the Chicago Fire, has come in and played very well so far in net. He has registered a (1-2-2) record, with one shutout, a 1.17 GaAvg and 31 total saves.
Throughout the season the team has had to use multiple formations as injuries have plagued them. Main players such as Brandon Barklage, Richard Dixon, James Musa, Jamiel Hardware, and Mike Roach has given other players some extra minutes on the field and they have field these roles well.
One of the biggest highlights of the year for the team would have to be the entirety of the U.S. Open Cup. Saint Louis defeated the Des Moines Menace at home in the first round. They were then paired up against NASL and future MLS team Minnesota United where they pulled out a victory in a penalty shootout. The biggest test for STL came as the team traveled down I-70 to Kansas City to take on Sporting KC. In an amazing atmosphere fueled by the St. Louligans, Saint Louis fell by a score of 1-0.
The fan support for the team has surpassed expectations. Average attendance for the home games this season has been 4,573. In the seven games at home this season over 32,000 fans have showed up. And “St. Louis is NOT a soccer town.” Right…
As the team prepares for the second half of the season they hope to find their winning ways. As injured players become healthy the battle for starting spots will be tight as players have stepped up their games to fill these spots. Saint Louis FC looks forward to seeing more and more fans keep coming out to the park for the second half of the season and look to push their way up into the playoff picture by September.
