SCHAUMBURG, IL–The River City Rascals avenged a loss in the series opener by beating the Schaumburg Boomers 2-0 in 10 innings at Boomers Stadium on Wednesday night. Both starting pitchers went seven scoreless innings in the game. The Rascals now lead the season series 4-1.
With the score tied entering the tenth, the Rascals got a pinch-hit leadoff walk from Zach Lavy, who was bunted into scoring position by Gage West. A slow roller down the third base line from Ransom LaLonde scored Lavy when Boomers pitcher Mitch Schulewitz (3-1) fired an errant throw to first that got past first baseman Collin Ferguson and allowed Lavy to score. An RBI bloop single to right center from Trevor Achenbach gave the Rascals the insurance run. Cody Mincey retired the side in order in the bottom of the 10th to secure his 13th save of the season.
Rascals starter Josh Kimborowicz was brilliant, allowing just two hits in seven shutout innings, but had to settle for the no-decision. Reliever Joe Iorio (4-1) earned the win, pitching two scoreless innings out of the Rascals bullpen.
Boomers starter Gunnar Kines also went seven scoreless, allowing four hits, no walks and seven strikeouts.
The Rascals (26-21) look for the series win in the rubber match against the Boomers (24-22) tomorrow night, with first pitch scheduled for 6:30 pm CT. Rookie Ryan Orr will make his first professional start on the mound for the Rascals.
