The Independence of Albert Pu…WHO?!

by Megan Foster

Hey, did you know that the Cardinals are currently in a series with the Angels? Did you also know that there is this guy that plays for those Angels named Albert? Unless you have been living under a rock for the last week, then you know what I’m referring to. Every time I look at the World Wide Web, I see something referring to Albert’s return against the Cardinals, how great he did for the Cardinals, how he felt awkward about being around the Cardinals, yada yada.

I understand that it wasn’t as big of a deal, because he wasn’t as big of a player, but just a couple of series ago, the Cardinals played against the Rangers. One of my very favorite used-to-be-a-Cardinal in Lance Berkman now plays for the Rangers. I love Berkman. Still do. No love lost there, wish he was still a Card, but hey, he left on good terms. He understood that he wasn’t in the Cards’ big time future, and stepped aside. Not a big deal was made about his return to St. Louis. Guess that just goes to show what kind of class Berkman has as a player as well as a human. I did miss any kind of witty comment that he could have made to the media. Hit up the googler for Berkman quotes. He uses big words…correctly. Still love that guy.

So, back to the issue at hand, there’s been quite the deal made in the media as far as Albert making his against-the-Cardinals debut. Looking at the box scores, within the two games that have (as of right now) been played, Mr. Poop-holes….er….Pujols has gone 0-7 with 2 strike outs. WHAT?! You mean to tell me the guy that is making 24 million dollars this year is not doing as well in two games as a guy that is making $504,000 and is 4 for 10 with one homerun in Matt Carpenter? Oh, wait, surely the defense that they have played has made up for the big goose egg for Albert and the .400 that Carpenter has hit (in the two games of the series). Oh..wait..Albert is the DH…he doesn’t play on the defensive end.

I will commend Albert for 2 things and two things only: his encouragement of wearing the Stan #6 patch, and his continued charity work.

Karma is a stinker, huh?

Thank you, Albert. Thank you for everything you did for us in Cardinal-land, but now you’ve made it possible for those of us who hadn’t already to move on. I continue to be a very small but proud member of Cardinal Nation.

Hey, Mozeliak, you’re a genius.

Go Cards!
