Cardinals To Honor & Celebrate Late HOF Manager Whitey Herzog On July 10th

The St. Louis Cardinals announced today that it will host Whitey Herzog Night to honor and celebrate the life of the late Hall of Fame Manager during the team’s game against the Kansas City Royals at Busch Stadium on Wednesday, July 10.

Members of the Herzog family, including Whitey’s three children, Debra, David, and Jim, will be in attendance and take part in a special pregame ceremony. Cardinals Hall of Famers Ozzie Smith, Willie McGee, Ted Simmons, Chris Carpenter and Jason Isringhausen will also be on hand for the ceremony.

15,000 fans, ages 16 and older, attending the game that evening will take home a t-shirt featuring the “White Rat”, courtesy of Brown & Crouppen. Additionally, 10,000 fans entering with a ticket will receive a White Herzog decal, courtesy of Shelter Insurance. Fans can purchase tickets and find more information at cardinals.com/promotions.

A native of New Athens, Ill., in the Metro East area of St. Louis, Herzog managed the Cardinals from 1980-90 and is credited with changing the direction of the franchise with an exciting style of play that would become known as “Whitey Ball” throughout baseball. He ranks third in franchise history with 822 victories–trailing only Tony La Russa (1,408) and Red Schoendienst (1,041)–and his teams won three National League pennants (1982, 1985, 1987) and the 1982 World Series. Herzog was elected to the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 2010 by the Veterans Committee and was an inaugural member of the Cardinals Hall of Fame in 2014.
