Duquesne topped Saint Louis 81-66 on Tuesday night in Atlantic 10 Conference men’s basketball action at UPMC Cooper Fieldhouse in Pittsburgh, Pa.
Saint Louis falls to 9-17 overall and 2-11 in the A-10. Duquesne moves to 16-10 and 6-7 in the league, improving its turnaround after beginning A-10 play 0-5.
Terrence Hargrove Jr. led the Billikens with 17 points, followed by Bradley Ezewiro who scored 13. Kellen Thames matched a career high with 12 points, while Gibson Jimerson scored 12 points.
Jimerson finished with two treys and is now six away from surpassing Billiken great Erwin Claggett for most 3-pointers in a career (295) by a Billiken.
Duquesne’s Dae Dae Grant led all scorers with 31 points as the Dukes shot 51 percent from the field. Duquesne won the battle on the glass, 34-29.
Duquesne jumped all over the Billikens early on and stretched out to a 25-4 lead. SLU began to chip away at its deficit and pulled to within 15 after 3-pointers by Gibson Jimerson and Djordje Curcic.
The Dukes converted a layup at the first-half buzzer and took a 14-point lead into halftime, 41-27.
It was much of the same for Duquesne in the second half, as Grant had back-to-back 3-pointers early in the second period to force a SLU timeout.
The Billikens were never able to chip away at the large deficit in the second half and ended up falling by 15.
SLU is at home for its next two games, hosting George Washington Saturday at 2 p.m. and Richmond next Wednesday at 7 p.m. Both games at Chaifetz Arena will be televised on Bally Sports Midwest.
