St. Louis Ambush Bring Back Fan Favorite Corey Adamson

One of the original members of the St. Louis Ambush is coming home. Corey Adamson, who made the team in the club’s first open tryouts in 2013, has been signed for the 2023-24 season, the Ambush announced today. Adamson quickly became a fan favorite due to his intense and enthusiastic gameplay coupled with his willingness to immerse himself in the community.

Adamson is a veteran of 11 professional indoor soccer seasons. After breaking in with the Las Vegas Legends in 2012, Corey saw his rookie season limited to one game due to injury. He then journeyed to St. Charles for open tryouts with the Ambush in the summer of 2013, and was one of the first players to be offered a contract. Corey made his mark on St. Louis early, scoring the first goal in franchise history before jumping into the stands to celebrate with the fans, in a 17-4 win over the Pennsylvania Roar on November 22, 2013 at the Family Arena.

Adamson split the 2014-15 season between the Ambush and Milwaukee Wave then spent the 2015-16 season with the Cedar Rapids Rampage before returning to the Ambush as a free agent for the 2016-17 campaign. Corey split the 2019-20 season, appearing in five games with the Ambush before being loaned to the Orlando SeaWolves where he served the dual role of player and assistant coach. He spent the COVID-abbreviated 2021 season with the Ambush. Adamson joined the Memphis Americans in the rival National Indoor Soccer League (NISL), where he served as player and head coach of the men’s team and head coach of the women’s team, both for the past two seasons. He guided the Memphis women’s squad to the NISL 2021-22 Women’s Championship and the men’s team to the championship game on this way to winning the league’s Coach of the Year honor. In 138 career games in the MASL and NISL combined, Corey tallied 77 goals and 51 assists.

During his time in the St. Louis area, Adamson made a positive impression on hundreds of kids while coaching for several area soccer clubs. Corey also became a familiar face at hundreds of personal appearances at area schools, soccer tournaments, and other events throughout the St. Louis area. Soccer isn’t the only place Adamson excelled, as he’s a two-sport pro. He also played as a kicker with the St. Louis Attack and River City Raiders arena football teams.

Adamson is excited about coming back. He said, “One of the toughest decisions I ever had to make was to leave St. Louis. To come back and be able to compete for a championship in the place I called home and that has been good to me and my family for a decade is special. It’s a blessing to be back home and I’m excited to get to work.”

Ambush co-owner and CEO Shelly Clark said, “I remember Corey from our first open tryouts. He became a part of the Ambush family from the start and it’s a pleasure to welcome him back home.”

Ambush co-owner, GM and head coach Jeff Locker said, “Corey Adamson has been important to this franchise both on and off the field. His work ethic, enthusiasm and experience will be a valuable addition to the upcoming season and we look forward to his return.”

The Ambush will kick off their eleventh season when they host the Milwaukee Wave in their home opener on Black Friday, November 24 at 5:05 p.m. at The Family Arena. Single game, season and group tickets for the 2023-24 campaign are now on sale. Call the Ambush office at 636-477-6363 for more information.
