Saint Louis extended its unbeaten streak to six with a 2-0 victory over George Washington in Atlantic 10 Conference men’s soccer action on Wednesday afternoon at the GW Soccer Field. Seth Anderson and Christian Buendia scored for SLU, while Mason Hart made five saves for the shutout.
The Billikens improve to 5-3-2 overall and 3-0-1 in A-10 play. The Revolutionaries fall to 2-7-3 and 0-4.
The win assures that the Billikens will at least be tied atop the A-10 standings at the halfway point of the league schedule. VCU and Duquesne, which entered the day tied for first with SLU in the A-10, are both in action tonight.
Anderson got the scoring started with his first goal of the season in the 14th minute. CJ Coppola split two defenders with a pass to Galen Flynn, who lifted a ball into the six that Anderson headed home for what would become the game-winner.
Christian Buendia added an insurance tally in the 69th minute on a penalty kick, which came after GW was whistled for a handball in the box off an Anderson shot. Buendia buried the PK for his second goal of the season.
It was the second straight shutout for the Billikens and the second of the season for Hart. Four of his five saves came in the second half.
The Billikens are back in action on Saturday night, hosting the La Salle Explorers at Hermann Stadium for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
