St. Louis Blues President of Hockey Operations and General Manager Doug Armstrong announced today the team has acquired forward Zach Dean from the Vegas Golden Knights in exchange for forward Ivan Barbashev.
Dean, 20, was drafted by the Golden Knights in the first round (No. 30) overall in the 2021 NHL Draft.
This season, the Grande Prairie, Alberta, native has dressed in 38 games for the QMJHL’s Gatineau Olympiques, ranking fourth on the team with 49 points (24 goals, 25 assists) while his eight game-winning goals share third in the league overall.
Dean also collected three points in seven games with Team Canada at the 2023 World Juniors, helping the team capture the gold medal.
The 6-foot, 192-pound forward has spent the past four seasons with the Olympiques, including 2019-20, when he was named to the QMJHL All-Rookie Team after collecting 46 points (18 goals, 28 assists) in 57 games in his first season. Overall, Dean has appeared in 165 career regular-season games with the Olympiques, amassing 167 points (73 goals, 94 assists) and 131 penalty minutes. He has also tallied nine points (three goals, six assists) in 11 career playoff games.
Barbashev, 27, was drafted by the Blues at No. 33 overall in the 2014 NHL Draft. In seven seasons with St. Louis, the Moscow, Russia, native recorded 178 points (78 goals, 100 assists) and 128 penalty minutes across 410 regular-season games.
