Saint Louis guard Yuri Collins was named the Atlantic 10 Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for the period of Nov. 14-20, the league announced today.
Collins helped the Billikens to a 2-1 week that included quality wins against Memphis and Providence. He averaged a team-leading 18.3 points and 7.3 assists across the three games for SLU.
Against Memphis on Nov. 15, Collins scored a team-high 22 points and dished out nine assists in leading SLU to a 90-84 victory at Chaifetz Arena. He also was 12-of-14 from the line against the Tigers.
At the Basketball Hall of Fame Tip-Off Tournament at the Mohegan Sun last weekend, Collins scored 12 points and added six assists against Maryland. The next day, he scored a team-high 21 points on 9-of-13 shooting and posted seven assists as SLU erased a 13-point second-half deficit to defeat Providence. Collins was named to the All-Tournament Team for his efforts.
For the year, Collins is leading the team in scoring with 15.0 ppg. The Cousy Award candidate is the NCAA leader in total assists (49) and assists per game (9.8).
The Billikens (4-1) continue to receive votes in the AP Top 25. On Wednesday, the host Paul Quinn College at 7 p.m. at Chaifetz Arena. Then, SLU heads to Auburn to face the No. 13 Tigers on Sunday.
