Yuri Collins Named to Cousy Award Preseason Watch List

by Brian Kunderman

Saint Louis junior point guard Yuri Collins is one of 20 student-athletes on the 2023 Bob Cousy Award Preseason Watch List. The Cousy Award, which is sponsored by the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame, recognizes the top point guard in men’s NCAA Division I basketball.

Collins was named first-team All-Atlantic 10 Conference a season ago after leading the NCAA in total assists (267) and assists per game (7.9). His 267 assists were a SLU single-season record, and his 554 career assists are a school record as well.

Collins averaged 11.1 ppg and was an 81.5 percent shooter from the stripe, 10th in the Atlantic 10. He was named to the A-10 preseason All-Defensive team after finishing tied for 34th in the NCAA with 65 steals a season ago.

Fan Voting presented by Dell Technologies will open Friday, October 28, so Billiken fans can vote for Collins in all rounds throughout the season. The top 10 player selections from the fan vote will get an additional vote towards making the next round.

The preseason Watch List will be narrowed down to 10 in late January, and then five finalists will be selected in late February that will be presented to Bob Cousy and the selection committee. The winner of this award will be presented on a to be determined date. Presentation details will be announced at a later date.
