Saint Louis senior forward John Klein buried two goals to lead Saint Louis past Marquette 2-1 Tuesday night in a nonconference men’s soccer match at Hermann Stadium.
The Billikens, who are unbeaten in their last four, improve to 4-3-1 overall with the win. Marquette is now 4-4-1.
The two scores by Klein bring his season total to five, which leads the Bills. It was the second time this year and the sixth time in his career that he scored multiple goals in a game. Klein now has 77 career points (27G, 23A) to rank 17th in school history.
After a scoreless first half, the Bills didn’t take much time to put one on the scoreboard in the second session. Seth Anderson started the scoring play in the 48th minute when he sent a centering pass to Klein, who flicked it on for the game’s first goal.
Marquette tied it up in the 63rd minute when Abdoul Karim Pare scored on assists by Beto Soto and Edrey Caceres.
Klein tallied the game winner in the 72nd minute. Marquette keeper Chandler Hallwood punched away a corner kick, but it came right to Klein. He one-timed it back toward goal and it snuck through the crowd and into the back of the net for the 2-1 final.
Carlos Tofern preserved the win in goal by making three saves, including two in the second half.
The Billikens conclude their three-game homestand on Saturday night when they welcome in Loyola Chicago for an A-10 match for the first time. First kick is slated for 7 p.m.
