First-place Davidson drilled 14 3-pointers en route to a 79-58 victory over Saint Louis Saturday afternoon in Atlantic 10 Conference men’s basketball action at Belk Arena.
SLU falls to 18-9 overall and 9-5 in league play, while Davidson improves to 22-4 overall and 12-2 in the league.
The 14 3-pointers for the Wildcats were one off the record for treys by a SLU opponent. Davidson shot 58.3 percent from 3-point land and 47.1 percent from the field overall.
Saint Louis was led by Yuri Collins’ 10 points. Francis Okoro added nine points and 11 rebounds. Terrene Hargrove Jr. chipped in nine points as well. Fred Thatch Jr. dished out a career-high six assists.
Davidson, which outrebounded the Billikens 39-34, were led by Hyunjumg Lee’s 29 points. Three Wildcats hit four 3-pointers apiece – Lee, Luka Brajkovic and Michael Jones.
Davidson came out firing in the first half, hitting its first 3-pointers to open an early lead. In all, the Wildcats drilled 10 3-pointers in the opening frame and led by as many as 17 points. But SLU chipped away at the deficit in the closing minutes of the first half and trailed by 13 at the break, 41-28.
SLU and Davidson played even for the first 10 minutes of the second half, but the Billikens were never able to bring its deficit into single figures. SLU had it within 13 after a DeAndre Jones 3-pointer with six minutes left, but Davidson responded with a 10-0 run to put the game away
The Billikens return to action Tuesday night when they host Saint Joseph’s at Chaifetz Arena. Game time on Bally Sports Midwest Plus is 7 p.m.
