Billikens Introduce O’Loughlin Family Champions Center

Saint Louis University and the Department of Athletics introduced the O’Loughlin Family Champions Center.

The best-in-class facility will impact all 400+ Billiken student-athletes, delivering programming related to academic advising, spiritual development, sports performance, nutrition, wellness, and sports psychology. The O’Loughlin Family Champions Center will feature cutting-edge technology throughout the building to help deliver on the department’s strategic objectives, which are to educate, compete, and build community.

Bob O’Loughlin, Chairman and CEO of Lodging Hospitality Management, is one of the primary benefactors of the project. Funding for the $20 million facility will be 100 percent privately raised.

The 25,000-square-foot facility will be connected to Chaifetz Arena, constructed on the northwest corner of the Arena footprint. Construction will begin in spring 2022 with an anticipated completion date of May 2023, in time for the University’s 2023 May Commencement.

Key components to the O’Loughlin Family Champions Center include:

Student Success Suite
Benefactors: Centene Corporation / Michael and Noémi Neidorff
 

The Student Success Suite will be the cornerstone of the O’Loughlin Family Champions Center facility and services. The suite will deliver spiritual development, sports psychology, and academic, career, and student-athlete development programming. The combination of student-athlete development, spiritual development and academic and career services will provide an unparalleled program in the NCAA.

Performance Nutrition Center
Benefactor: Anonymous

The Performance Nutrition Center will offer student-athletes healthy meal options on campus. For student-athletes, the nutrition area will focus on personal performance targets, wellness and recovery. This community space will also be utilized for public events such as graduation, athletic alumni events and pre-game receptions.

Team Dining Suite
Benefactor: Keith Phoenix

Within the Performance Nutrition Center, there will space available for team meals and additional community-building opportunities. As is the case around other areas of the O’Loughlin Family Champions Center, the space will be equipped with cutting-edge technology, allowing teams to also break down game film during team meals and meetings.

Basketball Operations Suites
Benefactor: Dr. Richard A. Chaifetz

The Sport Operations Suites will provide a hub for sport operations, ensuring the efforts in competition are being matched by necessary facilities outside of competition. These facilities will allow SLU to win in recruiting the top students from the St. Louis area and beyond.

Soccer Operations Suites
Benefactors: Jim Kavanaugh/World Wide Technology

The Sport Operations Suites will provide a hub for sport operations, ensuring the efforts in competition are being matched by necessary facilities outside of competition. These facilities will allow SLU to win in recruiting the top students from the St. Louis area and beyond.

Student-Athlete Development Program
Benefactors: Linda and Alan Vogt

The Student-Athlete Development Program will create a comprehensive curriculum that will enhance support services and provide development opportunities for all Billiken student-athletes. Programming includes personal development, leadership development and mentoring/networking opportunities.

Technology Suites
Benefactors: Mark & Joy Scoggins and Floyd & Judith Crowder

Technology Suites will be housed within the O’Loughlin Family Champions Center, equipping Billiken athletics programs and coaches with state-of-the-art technology to serve their student-athletes. The technology suites will be used for film breakdown and other team meetings.
