Robert R. Hermann Stadium, home of the Saint Louis University men’s and women’s soccer programs, is receiving a facelift with the construction of a brand new locker room and athletic training center building.
The 5,000-square-foot facility will be located on the south end of the field (scoreboard end) between the field and the Laclede sidewalk. It will house two 2,000-square-foot locker rooms for the men’s program and women’s program; a state-of-the-art sports medicine facility; and a conference room overlooking the Hermann Stadium pitch to be used for, among other things, meetings with prospective student-athletes.
Construction is anticipated to be completed in time for the 2022 spring season.
Chris May, Director of Athletics :
“This project is made possible through the generosity of the SLU soccer community who share our vision of providing a transformational experience for our men’s and women’s soccer student-athletes. We have set out to provide a first-class venue for our soccer programs and student-athletes, and this addition accomplishes just that. Pairing the new facility with the recently renovated playing surface, we are continuing to make Hermann Stadium one of the finest venues in collegiate soccer.”
Kevin Kalish, Men’s Soccer Coach :
“The new SLU Soccer facility is an incredible addition to one of the best college soccer facilities in the country. It will greatly enhance our performance and culture, and will give our student-athletes a place to call home. Also, this project is extremely significant in helping recruit the best players in the country to SLU.”
Katie Shields, Women’s Soccer Coach :
“This new SLU Soccer facility changes the landscape of the daily environment for our women and men. It will help deliver in the value-centered experience that our student-athletes have at SLU. Also, it will shine in the recruiting process and will enable us to go fishing in a different recruiting pond and win those recruiting battles.”
The men’s and women’s soccer programs have rich histories. The men’s team owns an NCAA-record 10 national championships and has advanced to the NCAA Championship 48 times. The women’s team has won three straight A-10 Championships and has qualified for five NCAA Championships.
After serving as the home to various athletics programs for many years, the Hermann Stadium site was renovated into the home of the SLU Soccer programs in 1999. The venue has served as the home of many Conference USA and Atlantic 10 Conference Championships. Most notably, Hermann Stadium was the home of the 2006 NCAA Men’s Soccer College Cup.
The pitch at Hermann Stadium has served as a training ground for some of the world’s top teams and players. Clubs who have trained at Hermann Stadium include Chelsea FC, Real Madrid and Liverpool FC. In addition, the Bosnia-Herzegovina Men’s National Team and the United States Women’s National Team trained at Hermann Stadium in advance of friendlies prior to the FIFA World Cup.
