Saint Louis junior guard Jordan Goodwin posted a double-double of 20 points and 14 rebounds as the Billikens knocked off Boston College, 64-54, in the Showcase Game of the Gotham Classic Wednesday afternoon at Boston College’s Conte Forum.
The Billikens (6-1) have now won three in a row. Boston College dips to 4-3.
It was the second double-double for Goodwin in consecutive games, as his monster second half helped the Billikens take control after they trailed by two at the break.
Goodwin registered 15 points and eight rebounds after halftime, and helped spark a 21-0 Billiken run midway through the second half. The Billikens had to hold off a late Boston College charge to post the 10-point win.
There was no tournament champion crowned in the round-robin event, but SLU finished 4-0 in the Gotham Classic. Goodwin was recognized as the Most Outstanding Player of the Gotham Classic Showcase Game.
Junior forward Hasahn French also had a double-double for the second-straight game, finishing with 11 points and 11 rebounds.
Gibson Jimerson finished with 11 points, while Javonte Perkins had nine points and nine rebounds.
French began the Billikens’ second-half run with a bucket at the 15:34 mark. A Jimerson trey a minute later gave SLU the lead for good.
The SLU lead grew to 20 with five minutes left, but Boston College slowly chipped away at the deficit and pulled to within six with a minute remaining. Goodwin sealed it with a fast-break dunk to help SLU escape with the nonconference road win.
The Billikens are back in action on Sunday afternoon when they host Southern Illinois at Chaifetz Arena. Tip time is 3 p.m., and the game will be televised on FOX Sports Midwest.
