Saint Louis sophomore defender Isabel Burke is the Atlantic 10 Conference women’s soccer Defensive Player of the Week for Sept. 30-Oct. 6, the league office announced Monday. Burke collected the award for a second time in her career.
Burke played a key role as the Billikens shut out Saint Joseph’s and St. Bonaventure last week. She and her teammates allowed just five shots in the two games combined as SLU posted its seventh and eighth clean sheets of the season. Burke also got in on the attack, scoring her first goal of the year in the St. Bonaventure game.
Saint Louis strengthened its league-leading defensive marks in goals against average (0.49) and shutouts. The Billikens are allowing just 7.6 total shots and 3.1 shots on goal per game.
SLU, which hosts La Salle Sunday, Oct. 13, at 1 p.m., is 10-3-1 overall and tied for first in the A-10 with a 5-0 conference mark. The Billikens have captured six straight victories and are unbeaten (7-0-1) in their last eight games.
