The St. Louis SLAM women’s professional tackle football franchise aims to maintain their undefeated record with Saturday’s road trip to Des Moines, Iowa.
The SLAM (3-0) faces the Iowa Phoenix (2-1) at 5 p.m. at Saydel High School as their 2019 Women’s Football Alliance (WFA) journey continues.
St. Louis churned a 31-6 home victory over Derby City Dynamite last Saturday at St. Mary’s High School to keep their record unblemished. In the game, quarterback Jaime Gaal threw for three touchdown passes and pushed her overall season collective to six.
Running back Taylor Hay has three touchdown plunges on the season while Danielle Price and Jamie Skinner each have a pair of touchdown receptions.
On defense, Tiffany Pugh, Raven Williams, Brooklyn Devitt, Chelsea Vinson and a host of others have only surrendered 14 overall points through three games.
Iowa is competing in their inaugural WFA season and compared to the SLAM’s Division 2 designation, the Phoenix participates in Division 3. After claiming wins over divisional rivals Arkansas and Tulsa, Iowa fell 50-2 to D2’s Wisconsin Dragons last Saturday.
The Phoenix offense, anchored by quarterback Jennifer Trevillian, is paced by running back Kayla Lavalais, who has a pair of touchdown runs alongside Trevillian this season. Receiver Alexandria Breon has a touchdown reception as well as a “Pick Six” on defense.
With victory Saturday, the SLAM will maintain their upward trajectory in their first season back after a one year absence. St. Louis, a three-time WFA national champion, continues their home campaign on Saturday, May 25 against divisional rival Minnesota Vixen.
