The River City Rascals have announced that Isaac Bruce and Lance Berkman are the two headliners for their third annual Legends Game which will be held on Saturday, August 3rd, 2019 at 7:00pm. The Rascals annual Legends Game is a seven-inning celebrity softball game held every year at CarShield Field in O’Fallon, Missouri. Last years game included former St. Louis Cardinals greats David Eckstein, Vince Coleman, Aaron Miles, and Mark Mulder among many others. The rest of the lineup for the 2019 Legends Game will be announced at a later date.
Both Bruce and Berkman delivered iconic moments in St. Louis sports history. Way back on January 30th, 2000 in Super Bowl XXXIV, Isaac Bruce caught a monumental 73-yard touchdown pass from St. Louis Rams QB Kurt Warner to give the Rams a 23-16 lead with 1:54 remaining in the game. The Rams would ultimately hold onto the lead and thanks to Mike Jones’ famous tackle to down Titans WR Kevin Dyson at the one-yard line, would preserve the only Super Bowl title in Rams franchise history. Bruce also has the 5th most receiving yards in NFL history (15,208), 12th most touchdowns (91), and 13th most receptions (1,024). In his 16 NFL seasons, Bruce made the Pro Bowl four times and was second team All-Pro once.

Lance Berkman only spent two seasons with the St. Louis Cardinals at the tail end of his career, but still left his mark. In the 2011 regular season while he was 35 years of age, Berkman played in 145 games and batted .301, had 147 hits, hit 31 HR’s, and drove in 94 RBI’s. His stellar performance earned him one of his six career All-Star Game appearances and NL Comeback Player of the Year in the 2011 season.
In the NLDS against the Philadelphia Phillies, despite hitting .167 in the series, Berkman drove in four RBI’s in five games as the Cardinals took down the favorited Phillies three games to two. Berkman then hit for .300 and drove in two RBI’s in the NLCS as the Cardinals beat the Milwaukee Brewers in six games to win the pennant. Berkman then continued his tear in the World Series, holding a .423 batting average and driving in five runs in the seven games of the series.
In most St. Louis sports fans minds, Game 6 of the 2011 World Series is thought of as the greatest sports moment in the city’s history and arguably the greatest baseball game of all time (unless you are a Texas Rangers fan). The antics of David Freese (game tying triple, walkoff HR) are most often attributed with the Cardinals comeback in that game. But it was Lance Berkman who also had two key moments during Game 6. In the bottom of the first inning down 1-0, Berkman launched a homer over the wall in left center to give the Birds an early 2-1 lead.
Then in the bottom of the 10th, the Cardinals were down 9-8. With two down and Jon Jay on second base and Albert Pujols on first, Lance Berkman stepped up to the plate. Berkman worked his way to a 2-2 count and for the second straight inning, the Cardinals were down to their last strike. Rangers pitcher Scott Feldman delivered a fastball to Berkman which he then drove into short right center to tie the game up once again. You know how the rest of this story ends.
