Saint Louis senior guard Javon Bess was tabbed the Atlantic 10 Conference men’s basketball co-Player of the Week, the league announced today.
Bess helped the Billikens register a 60-53 win over Rhode Island on Sunday in the A-10 opener. He scored a career-high-tying 24 points on 8-of-13 shooting from the floor and 4-of-7 shooting from 3-point range.
Bess was once again strong on the defensive end, as he helped hold URI leading scorer Jeff Dowtin to just two field goals. Bess registered three steals and grabbed four rebounds.
For the year, Bess leads the Billikens in scoring (16.1 ppg; 10th in the A-10) and 3-pointers made (30). He is second on the Bills in rebounding (7.1 rpg; sixth in the A-10) and steals (25; seventh in the A-10).
Bess is the first Billiken to capture A-10 Player of the Week accolades since Jordair Jett earned the honor four times during the 2013-14 season.
The Billikens are back in action on Wednesday night when they take on UMass at Chaifetz Arena. Tip time is 8 p.m., and the game will be televised on CBS Sports Network.
