An Open Letter to Paul Goldschmidt

by 124treg

There were a lot of rumors. Nobody knew for sure, but on December 6th, the rumors were quelled. Paul Goldschmidt was now a member of the St. Louis Cardinals. After watching you play for the past 8 seasons in Arizona, I must say it will be nice to see you in a Cardinals uniform.

As you know, the Cardinals is a franchise that needs no introduction. We have 19 NL pennants and 11 World Series Titles. This team is consistently within reach of a playoff berth. I cannot begin to say how awesome it is that you are going to be a part of such an amazing tradition that is the St. Louis Cardinals.

While you are currently under contract for just the 2019 season, I have no doubt in my mind that you’ll fall in love with the city, the fans, and the tradition of the Cardinals. The Cardinals fill Busch Stadium to 95.6% capacity during the 2018 season which was the best in the big leagues. It’s an amazing feeling to watch 42,000 people rooting for their favorite players and their favorite team. The Cardinals fan base will cheer for you louder than you have ever experienced before.

You’ve seen multiple comparisons I’m sure to the Cardinal great Albert Pujols. There are many aspects of your game that remind you of him. You possess an amazing ability to hit the ball for average and power, run the bases with authority and confidence, and the ability to field your position is among the best in the game. It’s been awesome to witness from afar, but getting to see you step foot in Busch Stadium is going to be an experience. I like many other fans cannot wait to see you take the field.

I was tuned in to the Cardinals press conference when they introduced you. I’m glad to see a player that is ready to do what it takes. I loved that you wanted to learn from the other players as well as just getting ready for the season. This is an organization that is ready to win and we think you are the guy to help us get back to the World Series.

So welcome to St. Louis Paul. It’s going to be a fun ride. #46 is a Cardinal
