Three Saint Louis University Billikens were named Men’s Soccer All-Conference today by the Atlantic 10 Conference.
Freshman forward John Klein was tabbed the league’s Rookie of the Year and earned second-team All-Conference honors. Junior midfielder Devin Boyce and senior defender Lennart Hein were both named first-team All-Conference. Hein also earned a spot on the league’s All-Academic team.
Klein led the Billikens in scoring in 2018 with nine goals, the most scored by a Billiken in a season since Robert Kristo’s 14 goals in 2014. Additionally, Klein’s nine tallies are the most by a SLU freshman since Vedad Ibisevic scored 18 times in the 2003 season.
Boyce tied for third on the Billikens with 12 points (4G, 4A) and was a playmaker from the midfield position. A transfer from New Mexico in his first season with the Bills, Boyce tallied game-winning goals against nationally-ranked Tulsa, St. Bonaventure and George Washington.
Hein earned first-team All-Conference honors for the second year in a row. The senior played every game on the Billikens’ back line and also contributed two assists. Earlier this year, the International Business major was selected as one of 30 candidates in NCAA soccer for the prestigious Senior CLASS Award, which goes to student-athletes who combine athletic and academic prowess.
Saint Louis finished its season 6-4-7 overall and 3-1-4 in Atlantic 10 Conference play. The Atlantic 10 Conference Men’s Soccer Championship is taking place this weekend at SLU’s Robert R. Hermann Stadium.
