The St. Louis Surge women’s professional basketball franchise recently received details of their post-season fate for the upcoming Women’s Blue Chip Basketball League (WBCBL) national championship tournament held in Charlotte, North Carolina.
The Surge, the WBCBL Midwest Division champ, was awarded the third seed for the eight-team bracketed grid and will face sixth-seeded Virginia Lady Warriors in a quarterfinal match-up that takes place on Saturday, August 4.
St. Louis (9-2) gained automatic entry to the WBCBL finale with their 94-59 victory over Midwest Flyers Elite this past Saturday at Washington University. The triumph marked the squad’s fifth straight win.
The Surge claimed the WBCBL national title in 2014 and 2016 and aims to be the first three-time champion in the governing body’s thirteen-year history.
Sixth-seeded Virginia Lady Warriors (4-0) clinched the WBCBL East Coast Division and has been a tournament entrant for multiple seasons.
The winner of the Surge/Warriors contest will face the winner of the #2 Dallas Diesel vs. #7 Phoenix Elite contest in a semifinal match-up later that night.
The WBCBL title game takes place on Sunday, August 5 at Charlotte Latin School.
