Hockey Canada announced today that Blues Head Coach Mike Yeo has been named associate coach for Team Canada at the 2018 IIHF World Championship. Carolina Head Coach Bill Peters and Florida Head Coach Bob Boughner have been named head coach and assistant coach, respectively. The tournament will take place from May 4 – 20 in Copenhagen and Herning, Denmark.
Yeo, a native of North Bay, Ontraio, was named head coach of the Blues on Feb. 1 2017, after first joining the team as an associate coach on June 13, 2016. Yeo got off to the best start by a head coach in Blues history (7-1-0) and has gone on to lead the team to the 10th-best regular season record (66-40-8, .614) overall during his tenure. Prior to St. Louis, Yeo spent five seasons as head coach of the Minnesota Wild. He also spent one season as head coach of the American Hockey League’s (AHL) Houston Aeros, reaching the Calder Cup Final in 2011. From 2005 to 2010, Yeo served as an assistant coach with the Pittsburgh Penguins, capturing the Stanley Cup in 2009. Prior to joining the Penguins, he spent six seasons as an assistant coach with Pittsburgh’s AHL affiliate, the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins. Internationally, Yeo served as an assistant coach at the 2016 IIHF World Championship in Russia, where he helped guide Canada to a gold medal.
