You heard it here folks. Back with another bold prediction. Seems to be going fine thus far. It’s been rumored for months, and even going on a couple years. By the trade deadline, Josh Donaldson will become a Cardinal. St. Louis looks primed for a shot at a playoff spot, but I think this will be the final push for the Cardinals.

I’m okay with the Cardinals not getting any more bats – especially because I think the Josh Donaldson talks could pop back up in July – but they need a closer.
Of course a trade for Donaldson will come at a cost… However, it shouldn’t be too excessive given he will only be playing with the Cardinals for a few months. I think this deal will work well for both sides in the end.
The St. Louis Cardinals trade IF Jedd Gyorko, P Dakota Hudson, and a player to be named later to The Toronto Blue Jays in exchange for 3B Josh Donaldson
The only way this trade works is if Toronto is essentially out of contention. With the Yankees and Red Sox in the same division, it’s surely possible. Swapping Gyorko makes sense. He can easily play 3B instead of Donaldson in TOR. He deserves more playing time in St. Louis, but the Cardinals have multiple capable infielders. To sweeten the pot, Dakota Hudson is an interesting prospect. He has put together solid numbers in the Minor Leagues, but he is currently sitting behind Jack Flaherty and Alex Reyes for a chance in the rotation. Now as good as they would be for Toronto, I think they will try to squeeze out anything they can for Donaldson. Toronto has made many trades with St. Louis recently and the new nickname for them has turned into The Toronto Ex-Cardinals.

Now once the season is over, I can see the Cardinals trying to re-sign Donaldson. If they didn’t think they could, I don’t believe they trade for him. The Cardinals have been rumored to be in on him for a while now, and this could finally be when they pull the trigger.
Thanks for Reading!
