THE BASICS
• Jordyn Frantz scored a game-high and career-high-tying 20 points, and Saint Louis outscored Richmond 30-13 in the fourth quarter to defeat the Spiders 79-61 Wednesday night at the Robins Center.
• The Billikens (8-7, 2-0 Atlantic 10), who extended their winning streak to a season-high four games, have started 2-0 in league play for a second consecutive year. Richmond fell to 6-9, 1-1.
• Frantz hit all three of her 3-pointers in the fourth quarter, including back-to-back triples in the first minute of the period to increase the SLU lead from one to seven points.
• Richmond later whittled the margin to two, but a Kerri McMahan 3-pointer with 6:24 left sparked a 22-6 run that spanned the remainder of the game.
FIRST QUARTER
Richmond led by four points on two occasions, but six late points by Jenny Vliet pushed Saint Louis ahead, 15-14, at the end of the first 10 minutes.
SECOND QUARTER
• Richmond briefly regained the lead, 16-15, but a 7-0 run gave SLU a 22-16 advantage at the 5:58 mark.
• After the Spiders tallied the next five points to make it a one-point game, the Billikens used an 8-2 surge to take a 30-23 lead to the locker room.
THIRD QUARTER
• Saint Louis saw an eight-point edge dwindle to two, but two Jackie Kemph free throws and consecutive buckets by Paige Rakers pushed the lead back to eight, 38-30, with 6:38 left.
• Richmond pecked away and pulled even at 44 and again at 46. Rakers’ 3-pointer was answered by anlex Parson jumper, and the Billikens carried a 49-48 lead into the final frame.
FOURTH QUARTER
• Each team had an empty possession before Frantz hit twice from beyond the arc.
• Richmond closed to 57-55 with 7:21 remaining. However, McMahan’s trey, a Maddison Gits layup and a Rakers 3-pointer gave the Billikens a double-digit lead for good, 65-55, and they went on to outscore the Spiders 30-13 in the period.
BILLIKEN NOTABLES
• The Billikens scored a season-high 49 second-half points, topping their previous high of 46 tallied vs. St. Bonaventure in the A-10 opener.
• Saint Louis posted season highs for free throws made (23), free throw attempts (28), free throw percentage (.821) and blocks (eight).
• Eight different Billikens made at least two free throws.
• In addition to her 20 points (6-of-8 FG, 3-of-4 3-pointers, 5-of-5 free throws), Frantz pulled down a season-high six rebounds.
• Rakers (4-of-7 FG, 2-of-4 3-pointers) scored 10 points, grabbed a career-high nine rebounds and tied her career high of three assists.
• Gits led the Bills with 10 rebounds, her fifth double-digit total of the season and sixth of her career.
• McMahan registered season highs of nine points (4-of-4 free throws) and three assists.
• Tara Dusharm posted career highs of three offensive rebounds and four free throws made (4-of-4).
• Jackie Kemph had a game-high five assists and no turnovers.
