Blues Place Defenseman Alex Pietrangelo On Injured Reserve

St. Louis Blues President of Hockey Operations and General Manager Doug Armstrong announced today the club has placed defenseman Alex Pietrangelo (puh-TRAN-geh-loh) on injured reserve (IR) with a lower-body injury.  In addition, the Blues recalled defenseman Jordan Schmaltz from the American Hockey League’s (AHL) San Antonio Rampage.

Pietrangelo, 27, shares second among all defensemen with seven goals and ranks fifth with 23 points overall through 30 games this season.  The King City, Ontario, native is currently in his 10th season with the Blues after being drafted by the club with the fourth overall pick in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft.  Overall, the 6’3, 210-pound defenseman has accumulated 326 points (72 goals, 254 assists) in 569 career regular season games.

Schmaltz, 24, has dressed in 24 games for the Rampage this season, sharing the team lead and slotting fourth among AHL defensemen overall with 19 points (five goals, 14 assists).  Last season, his first in the NHL, the 6’2, 190-pound defenseman appeared in nine games for the Blues, posting two assists and four penalty minutes.  Originally drafted by the Blues in the first round, 25th overall, of the 2012 NHL Entry Draft, the Madison, Wisconsin, native has recorded 80 points (14 goals, 66 assists) in 137 career AHL regular season games.
